The inspiration

How it Started

Our Founder, Michelle Young, is an educator with experience both in the classroom as a 5th-grade teacher and in supportive roles. Michelle taught during the COVID-19 pandemic and knows firsthand the heart and time that goes into being an educator. Michelle’s passion for creating opportunities for underserved students and supporting educators is why she has developed The Michelle Young Foundation.

The Educator Champions’ Fund

We celebrate educators and the care they put into their students. Many times, teachers meet the needs of students through their personal paychecks. We want to help. Educators nominate students for the Champions Scholarship, which pays for an activity of the students' choice that they would not otherwise be able to participate in without financial support.

The Michelle Young Foundation

Homework and Hoops

The Michelle Young Foundation offers an afterschool program called Homework and Hoops to public school districts where students engage in literacy and math tutoring and basketball skills coaching. We also partner with educators to provide scholarships to students for participation in activities of their choice on a needs basis.

Homework and Hoops work with public school districts to provide athletic and academic support in one fun program. Our Learning Coaches integrate basketball with learning. A 2022 National Library of Medicine study of after-school activity programs showed that physical activity enrichment improved concentration, performance, and students' mental health.

Are you an educator or parent who would like to have the Homework and Hoops Program at your school?

Michelle Young

As an educator, television personality, speaker, activist, and nonprofit founder, Michelle Young inspires many. Her persona exudes charisma and positivity, and her message is strong and passionate. A wealth of experiences has led Michelle to become a powerful presence in the entertainment industry, field of education, and public speaking arena. Out of Michelle’s desire to impact underserved students, she founded The Michelle Young Foundation. TMYF partners with school districts to provide the after-school program, “Homework and Hoops.” Providing support to teachers and students is one of Michelle’s missions; therefore, through her nonprofit work, she offers scholarships for students to participate in activities they would otherwise not be able to, through teacher nominations. Her partnership with educators is one of her pillars because of her time as an educator.
